Adventure Science Center

Design, build, and test a dancing Bristlebot! This little robot comes to life by connecting a battery to a motor. Will your Bristlebot go in a straight line or in circles? Test it out! This activity can take up to 10 minutes to complete.

 

Intro to Lockpicking

A hands on intro to lockpicking and lock mechanics. Opening locks without needing keys!

Marbling Art by Jimmy Sears

Attendees aged 5+ (or younger with supervision) may float colors over a thickened liquid surface to be printed onto paper, for free (limit 1 per attendee). Once dried after ~1-2 hr your art will be ready to go! A limited number of pieces by Jimmy Sears will be on display and/or for sale.

Climate Story Quilts

Climate change is impacting communities across the globe through rising temperatures, sea level rise, droughts, floods, and extreme weather. However, we have the power to creatively tell the story of building a just, sustainable future. In this project, students will make a story quilt showing the impacts of climate change as well as climate solutions and resilience.

 

Radical Shoots

Radical Shoots develops low-cost data collection and automation hardware and software to empower small-scale and urban agriculture. An ag-tech start-up, Radical Shoots also grows and delivers specialty produce as the boutique farm, CC Gardens Microgreens. We work with chefs across the city and open the doors of our greenhouse retail store at Nashville Farmers Market every weekend to offer free samples, live-harvested microgreens and educational workshops.

SIAD - Simulator for Individualized and Adaptive Driving

SIAD is a research project developed by the Robotics and Autonomous Systems Lab (RASL) at Vanderbilt. It enables adolescents and young adults with Autism Spectrum Disorder to practice and learn to drive in a safe, immersive environment. Additionally, it allows us to collect quantitative metrics about driver performance in order to inform driver training.

Our mission at For Goodness Cakes is to give individual youth at least one special moment that is about them. We help to do this by matching volunteers to make and hand deliver birthday and graduation cakes to children in foster care on their special day.
